The town of Saugus was established in 1887, and was named by the local land owner, Henry Mayo Newhall, after his hometown of Saugus, Massachusetts. This was the same year that the Saugus Train Station was built which was located near the intersection of present day Magic Mountain Parkway and Bouquet Canyon Road. The old Saugus School House which opened in 1908, located near the present intersection of Magic Mountain Parkway and Bouquet Canyon had a school bell housed in a tower, which is now located at the Jan Heidt Metrolink Station in downtown Newhall.
