Newhall is the oldest community in Santa Clarita Valley Newhall was a part of the 1987 consolidation of Newhall, Saugus, Valencia, and Canyon County when these communities became the city of Santa Clarita.
The town is named in honor of businessman Henry Mayo Newhall. Silent movie maker William S. Hart’s mansion is situated in the county park named after him, with tours available. Newhall was the filming location for television series including The Magnificent Seven as well as a number of movies including Disney’s "The World’s Greatest Athlete" and "Suddenly".

The Veterans Historical Plaza is home to beautiful water features with walkways and benches. The lawn area proudly displays the United States and California Flags, along with the flags of the five military branches.
Whitney Canyon Park, located at the south eat end of Newhall Avenue is a 442-acre park offering hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails through beautiful oak woods and along a creek. There are a number of other great places to hike such as are Quigley Canyon Park.
Old Town Newhall has been revitalized into a charming area with the addition of new landscaping, shops, storefronts, lighting, crosswalks, a new Santa Clarita Old Town Library. Old Town features the Canyon Theatre Guild, The Main, the William S. Hart Mansion and Museum, many popular restaurants, community center, and hosts a Farmer’s Market and art exhibits. The soon coming Laemmele Theater and mixed use project, with retail, restaurants, and 46 residential units with underground parking. It is very exciting to see what is taking place in Old Town Newhall!
Newhall has an excellent range of schools. There is an impressive number of elementary schools to choose from including Valley View Elementary School which is rated 8 out of 10. R J Michael McGrath Elementary School and Peachland Elementary School are both rated a very respectable 7 out of 10. Other choices include Newhall Elementary School and Wiley Canyon Elementary School. Placerita Junior High School is rated above average and William S Hart High School is well rated at 8 out of 10.
