Castaic, CA 91384
Castaic is a small unincorporated community in Los Angeles County just north of the city of Santa Clarita and about 39 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.
Its official birth was in 1915 when the California Highway Commission completed the old Ridge Route, a trail that went over the tops of the mountains from Gorman to Castaic. The Ridge Route was considered an engineering masterpiece and reduced travel time from Los Angeles to Bakersfield by about 60 miles. However, the sharp turns created treacherous rides for many travelers in the 1920's and 30's. In 1933 construction began on Interstate 5 from Gorman to Castaic, which created a much safer way to commute!
Parker Ranch brought suburban homes to Castaic in the 1920s when parcels were subdivided.
