Canyon Country is a community at the eastern border of the city of Santa Clarita. It first received its name in the 1960s when the Canyon Country post office opened in 1968 near Solimint Junction - near Soledad Canyon Road and Sierra Highway. The second tract of homes built in the Santa Clarita Valley was the North Oaks tract, which began construction in 1961 when the 1800 acre 6-S Ranch was sold to a developer.
